Founders Declaration
Freemasonry is a spiritual movement arising from an inner need, manifesting itself in a continuous striving for the development of all those qualities of heart and mind that can raise man and mankind to a higher moral and spiritual level. This finds its expression in practicing the art of noble living.
Loge Erasmus aspires to be a centre for those who practise that Noble Art and promote an all round and harmonious development of man and mankind. Hence the emphasis in the Lodge on harmony, rule by consensus and the continuous practice of the Royal Art in our daily life, especially from and within the context of the family.
The Lodge is founded on a fundamental trust in the spiritual and moral principles that stimulates the world and its progress. This trust is based on recognition of the intrinsic value of man’s personality and the indefeasible right of every human being to search independently for the Universal Truth. It is further acknowledged that man has moral responsibility for his actions and behaviour within the fundamental equality of all people; and, within that all-encompassing brotherhood of man, each has a duty to devote himself to promote the common good.
So mote it be.
